How to Use the Type Effectiveness Calculator

  1. Select Input Criteria: Adjust the dropdowns, sliders, or numerical fields on the left control panel to match your current in-game situation.
  2. Live Instant Calculation: The application automatically executes the official Generation IX battle formulas in real time without refreshing the page.
  3. Analyze Strategy & Benchmarks: Examine the computed output panels, check key defensive or damage thresholds, and use the results to optimize your team.
  4. Share or Bookmark Your State: Use the browser's address bar link, which updates dynamically with your chosen parameters so you can bookmark or share your build with friends.

Mathematical Formulas & Engine Mechanics

Multiplier = Type1_Defensive_Multiplier * Type2_Defensive_Multiplier. Results group into 4x (double weakness), 2x (weakness), 1x (neutral), 0.5x (resistance), 0.25x (double resistance), and 0x (immunity).

Our calculations strictly follow the official Generation IX game logic implemented by Game Freak in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. All numbers use integer floor functions at every step rather than standard floating-point rounding, ensuring that min-max damage ranges, stat benchmarks, and multiplier thresholds match in-game tournament hardware precisely.

Worked Battle Examples with Real Numbers

Defending as Mamoswine (Ice / Ground)

Inputs: Type 1: Ice, Type 2: Ground

Result: Weaknesses (2x): Fire, Water, Grass, Fighting, Steel. Resistance (0.5x): Poison. Immunity (0x): Electric. All other 11 types deal 1x normal damage.

Attacking with Ground STAB into Heatran (Fire / Steel)

Inputs: Attacking: Ground vs Fire/Steel

Result: Fire takes 2x, Steel takes 2x -> Combined: 4x Super Effective Quad Damage!

Frequently Asked Questions (Type Effectiveness Calculator)

Why does Mamoswine take zero damage from Electric attacks?

Ground-type Pokémon possess a natural 0x damage immunity to Electric-type moves. Because Mamoswine is part Ground-type, any incoming Electric move deals exactly 0 damage and fails.

How does the Thick Fat ability alter Mamoswine's type effectiveness?

Thick Fat halves incoming damage from Fire and Ice attacks. Under Thick Fat, Mamoswine takes 1.0x neutral damage from Fire (instead of 2.0x weakness) and takes 0.5x resistance from Ice (instead of 1.0x neutral).

Can a Pokémon have a 4x weakness?

Yes. When both of a Pokémon's types share a weakness to the same attacking type, the multipliers compound: 2 * 2 = 4x. For example, a Grass/Bug Pokémon like Parasect takes 4x damage from Fire and Flying attacks.

How does Freeze-Dry interact with Water types?

Freeze-Dry is an Ice-type move programmed with a special battle effect that treats Water as super effective (2x) instead of resisted (0.5x).
